Common Questions Financial Advisors Ask About Valuation Services
The key reasons to get a valuation are the purchase or sale of a business, sharing equity, contingency planning, estate planning, taking on debt/loans, and benchmarking. In reality – all business owners should receive a valuation on their Company, allowing them/you to track your value and all of the key performance indicators that impact the value.
There are many reasons for getting a valuation of your firm, including selling your business, building an accurate formula into a buy-sell or shareholder/partnership agreement, sharing equity with a partner or your team, obtaining a larger line of credit, securing insurance for the business, placing a value on your personal balance sheet for estate planning, or divorce/partnership disputes to name a few examples.
Valuations are most useful for our clients when used as part of the annual business planning process – allowing them to manage their most valuable asset with full information.

We have relationships with many of the broker-dealers. We may be able to provide you guidance on specific reports that will help get you the information you need. Or, during the intake call, we may be able to provide alternative solutions to gathering the data or figuring out the appropriate inputs to use.
In general, business owners should complete a valuation annually. However, you may want to receive a valuation more or less frequently depending on your situation.
