Succession Resource Group Launches to Provide Acquisition and Succession Solutions to Help Broker-Dealers and Custodians Support Their Advisors

(PORTLAND, OR – August 22, 2012) – David Grau Jr., former executive at FP Transitions, has launched Succession Resource Group (SRG), a consulting company dedicated to helping broker-dealers and custodians retain their advisors by providing company wide succession planning and acquisition solutions. Leveraging Mr. Grau’s extensive background helping hundreds of financial advisors every year with their succession and acquisition needs, SRG will help companies who need to provide expertise and resources to their advisors in the field of succession planning and acquisitions.

“With an aging advisor base, broker-dealers and custodians are becoming increasingly aware of the need to provide succession and acquisition support to grow and retain their advisors. SRG’s model provides broker-dealers and custodians the flexibility, expertise, and reduced cost of outsourcing, but with the control and transparency of an in-house team. We are filling a crucial and growing need with these companies to make sure their advisors have a plan,” said Mr. Grau. In a recent study by InvestmentNews of more than 400 independent financial service firms, over half of the advisors surveyed indicated they did not have a succession plan, while 92% of respondents recognized that it is highly or moderately risky to not have a plan. The study also indicated that approximately 60% of the respondents plan to transition out of ownership in the next ten years. To remedy these alarming statistics, most broker -dealers and custodians have either hired in-house teams, referred their advisors to a vendor to help their advisors with business succession and acquisition, or focused on recruiting to replace lost assets of their retiring/aging advisors. In-house teams have proven to lack the resources, experience, and/or expertise to make an impact, and referring their advisors to a vendor results in a lack of control and often the loss of advisors/assets. SRG provides the first solution that can help these firms make a meaningful impact on their advisor force, and in the end, retain more assets.

David went on to say, “Helping advisors and their broker-dealers/custodians for the last 10 years, I’ve had an opportunity to work with an amazing community of small business owners. I want to continue to help ensure that these small businesses are around for generations to come and that they are able to get the value they deserve out of their business. That won’t happen in earnest without their BD or custodian being involved and helping provide a top-down, system-wide solution. That’s where SRG comes in.”

Through the relationship with the BD/custodian, Succession Resource Group is uniquely positioned to help organizations provide system wide succession and acquisition solutions. SRG helps advisors grow, protect, and plan for the transition of their business with the following solutions:

  • Business valuation
  • Acquisition target search and support
  • Death & disability planning
  • Sale of the business
  • Family business transition planning
  • Retained successor searches
  • Succession planning
