The study also indicated that approximately 60% of the respondents plan to transition out of ownership in the next ten years. To remedy these alarming statistics, most broker -dealers and custodians have either hired in-house teams, referred their advisors to a vendor to help their advisors with business succession and acquisition, or focused on recruiting to replace lost assets of their retiring/aging advisors. In-house teams have proven to lack the resources, experience, and/or expertise to make an impact, and referring their advisors to a vendor results in a lack of control and often the loss of advisors/assets.
